Description
The SH-14 Custom 5 came out of Seymour Duncan’s own user community, where players swapped the ceramic or Alnico 2 magnet in a Custom (SH-5) or Custom Custom (SH-11) for an Alnico 5. The result is a pickup that keeps the punch and output of those models but pulls the tone back toward vintage territory, trading some of the aggressive edge for a smoother, more musical distortion character.
Think of it as a hotter, beefier take on a ’59 Model – fuller low end, more headroom before things get gritty, and enough push to drive an amp hard when you dig in. Clean tones stay surprisingly rich and present rather than thin or brittle, which makes it a versatile choice across pop, country, blues, classic rock, and heavier rock styles alike.
Built with a nickel cover and four-conductor hookup wiring for flexible switching options (series, parallel, split), the SH-14 is designed for the bridge position. Pair it with a ’59 Model in the neck and you’ve got a classic P.A.F.-inspired setup with real vintage character on both ends.
- Alnico 5 magnet for warmer, more vintage-voiced output
- Higher output than a standard ’59 Model, with deeper bass response
- Four-conductor cable for coil-splitting and wiring versatility
- Nickel cover finish
- Recommended bridge position pickup
