Description
The Silver Sky is the product of a painstaking, multi-year partnership between Grammy-winning guitarist John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith. Together they pulled the best-loved traits from vintage 1963 and 1964 instruments and refined them into something both nostalgic and unmistakably PRS. In Dodgem Blue, it’s a striking take on a classic single-coil silhouette.
Small design choices add up to a big difference in playability. The headstock borrows PRS’s signature shape but flips it to suit Mayer’s technique and to keep string length behind the nut consistent, which helps tuning stability. Vintage-style closed-back tuners get PRS’s locking mechanism, and the neck profile – modeled directly on those beloved ’63/’64 guitars – pairs with a 7.25″ radius rosewood fretboard for a feel that clicks immediately.
The steel tremolo keeps its classic look while adding PRS’s own trem arm and Gen III knife-edge screws. Set flush to the body at rest, the bridge only drops in pitch and stays in contact with the body, which boosts acoustic resonance and sharpens the signal-to-noise ratio coming from the pickups. Speaking of which, the custom 635JM single-coils deliver a round, full voice with articulate highs that never turn harsh or brittle.
Rounding things out: a bone nut, a curved molded metal jack plate for easy cable access, retooled control knobs, slightly slimmer fretwire than typical PRS electrics, and a front-accessible double-action truss rod for simple adjustments. A gig bag is included.
