Description
The G6137TCB Panther arrived as part of Gretsch’s 130th-anniversary Professional Collection, built to bridge the gap between vintage hollow-body character and modern stage volume. Its 1 3/4″ deep, three-ply maple body carries a 16″ lower bout, arched top and back, and classic f-holes, but the real story runs down the center: a spruce center block spanning the full length of the body.
That block does more than add mass. It tames the body-resonant feedback that plagues traditional hollow bodies at higher gain, while the spruce itself keeps the tone lively rather than dead. Gretsch chambered the block at the lower bout to shave weight off the guitar, and the pinned wood bridge base extends roughly 5/8″ past the block on each side, letting string vibration reach into the f-hole chambers for a rounder, fuller voice than a solid center-block guitar typically offers.
Up top, a three-piece maple neck carries a bound rosewood fingerboard with a 12″ radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, and pearloid Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays, capped by a bound headstock with the pearloid Gretsch logo. Dual High Sensitive Filter’Tron pickups deliver the chime and growl Gretsch is known for, wired through independent volume controls per pickup plus master volume and tone.
Hardware is all business: an Adjusto-Matic bridge on a pinned rosewood base, a Bigsby B6C tailpiece, Grover Sta-Tite tuners, Schaller strap locks, and a top-mounted output jack for quick stage changeovers, all finished in chrome against the black gloss body.
