Description
Gretsch built this left-handed G6120LH to honor Eddie Cochran, the guitarist whose modified hollow body helped invent the vocabulary of rockabilly. Rather than a simple reissue, it’s a faithful recreation of his personal instrument, right down to the special “open” internal body design that gives it a distinctly different resonance than a standard G6120.
The tonal signature comes from a DynaSonic single-coil at the bridge paired with a Lindy Fralin “dog ear” single-coil at the neck — a combination that delivers Cochran’s twangy snap and low-end punch. The three-ply arched maple top, back, and sides are wrapped in white-black binding, while the two-piece maple neck carries a 9.5″ radius rosewood fingerboard with 22 frets and Cochran’s western motif inlaid in pearloid: cactus, steer heads, and fences.
Western-themed details continue throughout — a polished brass nut, a compensated aluminum bridge on a rosewood base, and a Bigsby B6GBVF tailpiece finished in gold and polished aluminum. Gold-plated Grover V98G Sta-Tite tuners hold things in tune, while a translucent plexi pickguard bearing the Gretsch logo and “G” arrow control knobs round out the vintage-correct look. The whole instrument wears an elegant Western Maple Stain finish.
