Twelve strings and a genuine hollow chamber make the G5422G-12 an instant mood-setter, conjuring that shimmering, layered chime that defined so many classic recordings. Built on Gretsch’s Electromatic hollow-body double-cut shape from 5-ply maple, the body is finished in a warm walnut stain and dressed with oversized bound F holes and aged multi-ply binding for a road-worn, vintage vibe right out of the box.
Tone starts with a pair of Black Top Filter’Tron humbuckers, wired through a 3-position toggle and a versatile control layout: individual volumes for neck and bridge, plus master volume with a treble-bleed circuit and master tone. That means you can dial in everything from glassy, bell-like arpeggios to a thicker, growling rhythm tone without losing clarity as you turn things down.
The maple neck wears a comfortable “U” shape profile, topped with a rosewood fingerboard carrying pearloid Hump-Block inlays and a 12″ radius across 22 medium jumbo frets. A Graph Tech NuBone nut and the smaller, late-’50s-style G6120 bound headstock round out the vintage-forward details, while an Adjusto-Matic bridge on a secured rosewood base and a gold G-cutout tailpiece keep intonation stable and tone resonant.
Hardware throughout is gold-plated, including vintage-style open-back tuning machines and G-Arrow control knobs, complemented by a gold plexi pickguard with the black Gretsch logo.
