Description
The G5420T Electromatic Hollow Body carries forward Gretsch’s signature growl with a fresh set of pickups born from a rediscovered Baldwin-era Filter’Tron. Gretsch’s R&D team reverse-engineered that vintage unit’s punch and shimmer into the new “Black Top” Filter’Tron pickups now fitted here, giving this hollow body a voice that’s equal parts vintage rockabilly and modern bite.
Underneath the electronics is a 5-ply maple body finished in a warm Sunburst gloss, bound at the top, back, and f-holes for that unmistakable Gretsch silhouette. Sound-post bracing keeps the hollow body tight and controlled, resisting unwanted feedback while preserving the resonance that makes these guitars so lively unplugged. The single-cutaway design keeps upper-fret access open without sacrificing any of that airy hollow-body tone.
The maple neck is capped with a bound rosewood fingerboard, 22 medium jumbo frets, and pearloid hump-block inlays that give the neck both a smooth playing feel and classic visual flair. A 24.5″ scale length and 1.6875″ nut width strike a comfortable balance for chord work and lead lines alike.
Controls are straightforward: a 3-position toggle switches between bridge, combined, and neck pickup settings, backed by independent volume knobs for each pickup plus master volume and tone. Up top, a rosewood-based Adjusto-Matic bridge pairs with a Bigsby-licensed B60 vibrato tailpiece for pitch-bending vibrato effects, while vintage-style open-back tuners and chrome hardware round out the classic look.
