Description
The Fullerton Deluxe Doheny pulls together some of the most requested combinations from G&L’s Option Order menu into one standing model. What sets it apart is its pickup set: newly developed Magnetic Field Design jazz pickups, marking the first appearance of MFD pickups on any production G&L instrument. They share the narrow bobbin aperture and wide coil splay of Leo Fender’s jumbo MFD ASAT Special pickups, but the classic jazz bobbin shape and traditional Formvar wire push the voice toward jangle and chime rather than twang. Paired with the onboard P.T.B. system, which lets you cut treble and bass independently through two passive tone knobs, the Doheny covers a lot more sonic ground than a typical single-tone-control setup.
Bending strings feels different here too, thanks to the Leo Fender-designed Dual-Fulcrum vibrato. It holds pitch with remarkable stability whether you’re pulling up or pushing down, and the substantial aluminum arm gives the whole system a smooth, confident feel under the hand.
The Doheny is offered in three finish combinations, all on alder bodies:
- 3-Tone Sunburst with a 3-ply tortoise pickguard and your choice of maple or Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
- Matcha Green with a 3-ply tortoise pickguard and Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
- Jet Black with a 3-ply parchment pickguard and Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
Every G&L USA instrument, including this one, is still built at the historic CLF Research/G&L facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California — the birthplace of the bolt-on electric guitar, where Leo Fender founded the company in 1980.
