Description
The Fullerton Deluxe Comanche takes the most sought-after combinations from G&L’s Option Order menu and puts them into a ready-to-ship package. Each body is either swamp ash or alder, matched with a pickguard chosen to make the finish pop, then topped off with G&L’s Clear Tint Satin neck finish for a refined, hand-feel touch.
Available finishes:
- 3-Tone Sunburst over Alder, 3-ply parchment pickguard, maple fingerboard
- Midnight Blue Metallic over Alder, 3-ply pearl pickguard, maple fingerboard
- Blonde over Swamp Ash, 1-ply white pickguard, maple fingerboard
- Honeyburst over Swamp Ash, 3-ply pearl pickguard, maple fingerboard
This was Leo Fender’s last word on the bolt-on double-cutaway platform, and it shows. The Magnetic Field Design Z-Coil pickups he engineered give the Comanche a sparkling top end and a punchy low end, with zero 60-cycle hum to get in the way. Roll back the volume or dial down the bass through the PTB (Passive Treble and Bass) circuit, and the tone turns surprisingly glassy and articulate rather than muddy.
A mini-toggle Expander Switch opens up two extra pickup combinations beyond the standard five-position switch, including a neck-plus-bridge blend that convincingly channels an ASAT Special. Add in Leo’s Dual-Fulcrum vibrato — smooth, stable, and fitted with a substantial aluminum arm — and you’ve got a guitar built for players who bend strings hard and expect the tuning to hold.
Every Comanche is still built in the original G&L facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California, the same shop Leo Fender founded in 1980. Note: due to its offset pickup layout, the Comanche is offered in right-handed configuration only.
