Description
The Fullerton Deluxe ASAT Classic Alnico takes G&L’s traditional bolt-on formula and reworks the pickup voicing around Alnico V magnets, giving this ASAT a rounder, more vintage-leaning character than the standard MFD-equipped model. The bridge pickup sits in a classic boxed-steel bridge and drives out a thick, cutting twang, with individual brass saddles handling intonation with more precision than the old-school setups this guitar takes inspiration from. The neck pickup, also Alnico V, fills out the low end for a fuller voice than typical vintage-style units, and running both together opens up a sweet, harmonically rich jangle.
This pickup pairing isn’t a recent experiment — it’s the result of work G&L’s Paul Gagon has done since the late 1970s. Before joining G&L, Gagon was an R&D engineer tasked with figuring out exactly what made the earliest bolt-on guitars so revered. He pulled apart legendary examples, compared notes with pickup builders who’d been on the line since the 1950s, and found that vintage pickup specs were far less consistent than their reputation suggests — and that bridge-to-neck balance was often a weak point. The Alnico V set in this ASAT Classic reflects decades of refining that balance.
Like the G&L Legacy, this model blends vintage-informed tone with the practical upgrades Leo Fender kept pushing for throughout his later work.
