Eric Johnson spent decades chasing a tone he could hear in his head but rarely found in a single instrument. In 2015 he brought that pursuit to Fender’s design team, and two years of refinement later, the Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster Thinline was bornu2014a genuine hybrid of semi-hollow warmth and classic Strat snap.
The two-piece alder body is custom-chambered and finished in nitrocellulose lacquer, letting the wood resonate openly while retaining the familiar Stratocaster contours and arm relief. Three single-coil pickups, voiced specifically to Johnson’s specs, are mounted with countersunk screws directly to the semi-hollow body, improving vibration transfer between strings and wood for a more organic, woody character underneath that signature Strat sparkle.
The neck is quartersawn maple in a comfortable ’57 Soft V profile, topped with a 12″ radius maple fingerboard, 21 medium-jumbo frets, and a bone nut for clear, even sustain across all six strings. Vintage-correct touches abound: staggered vintage-style tuners on a thin headstock, ’57-style string recesses, a parchment pickguard, a silver-painted tremolo block, and an ashtray bridge cover round out the period-accurate look.
