Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien has spent decades shaping ambient, orchestral textures that sit outside the usual rock guitar vocabulary. Fender worked directly with him to build a Stratocaster that reflects that approach, giving players access to the same tools he uses to create dense, evolving soundscapes.

The real trick, though, lives in the neck position: a Fernandes Sustainer unit that lets notes ring out far longer than a standard pickup ever could, opening the door to swelling, bowed-string-like tones and layered drones.
Dialing in the Sustainer is straightforward. It runs off a simple on/off switch, an intensity knob to control how aggressively it drives the string, and a three-way mode selector offering Fundamental-only, Harmonic-only, or Blend voicings. Each mode produces a distinct character, from grounded low-end sustain to glassy, bell-like overtones, giving you real flexibility for building parts that feel more like sound design than typical guitar riffing.
