The Stratocaster changed the game in 1954, and Fender’s American Original ’50s series brings that original magic forward without freezing it in amber. This model captures the look, feel and voice of a late-’50s Strat while sneaking in a couple of player-friendly updates you’ll actually appreciate on stage.
At the heart of the guitar sit three Pure Vintage ’59 single-coil pickups, wound and built the old way—Formvar-coated wire, cloth push-back leads, fiber bobbins, alnico 5 magnets, all wax-potted for stability. They deliver that glassy, articulate Strat quack without excess noise. Unlike a true vintage instrument, though, you get modern 5-position blade switching instead of the original 3-way, opening up the in-between tones players have relied on for decades.
The alder body wears a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish that ages naturally over time, and the maple neck carries a substantial Soft V profile—great for players who like some meat under their fretting hand. A 9.5-inch fingerboard radius keeps things comfortable whether you’re strumming open chords or bending into a solo, and vintage-tall frets add sustain and easier bending. Twenty-one frets, a bone nut, and a 25.5-inch scale round out the vintage-correct spec sheet.
Hardware stays true to the era too: a six-saddle Pure Vintage synchronized tremolo, single-line Fender Deluxe tuning machines, and nickel/chrome plating throughout. A 1-ply eggshell pickguard and matching knobs finish the look against the 2-Color Sunburst finish.
