The Wolfgang USA isn’t a guitar dreamed up in a boardroom – it’s the product of Eddie Van Halen spending over two years grinding through prototypes, then subjecting them to a full year of merciless in-concert abuse during Van Halen’s 2007-2008 world tour. Every night, on every song, Eddie pushed these instruments to their breaking point, tweaking components and specs until the tone, feel, and durability matched what was in his head. The performance data collected from those shows confirmed the design could take a beating and stay consistent. What you get here is exactly that guitar – no watered-down version, no compromises.
Underneath the Stealth Black gloss urethane finish sits a basswood body topped with arched maple, wrapped in five-piece binding that carries over to the matching bound headstock. The quartersawn maple neck wears an ebony fretboard with a 12″-16″ compound radius and 22 vintage stainless steel frets, making bends effortless and fretting-out a non-issue even with aggressive playing.
Eddie’s custom-designed EVH humbucking pickups (hard-mounted, double-potted) sit in an HH configuration wired to his reverse-style 3-way switching, running through master volume and tone controls only – simple, direct, no clutter. The EVH-branded Floyd Rose locking tremolo comes fitted with an EVH D-Tuna for instant drop-D dives, backed by low-friction pots, graphite neck reinforcement rods, and a Schaller chrome string retainer.
