Description
The Wolfgang Special takes Eddie Van Halen’s refined superstrat concept and puts it within easier reach, without cutting corners on the details that make it playable. Built in EVH’s Mexico facility, this version pairs an arched-top basswood body with a bolt-on quartersawn maple neck, finished in a hand-rubbed urethane that feels broken-in from the first session.
The compound-radius maple fingerboard runs from 12″ at the nut area out to 16″ toward the upper frets, so chords stay comfortable low on the neck while bends and solos up high resist fretting out. Rolled edges and 22 jumbo frets round out a fretboard built for speed. Dual EVH Wolfgang humbucking pickups, direct-mounted to the body, deliver the punch and clarity this design is known for, controlled with simple master volume and master tone knobs in black domed styling.
For dive bombs and pitch tricks, the EVH-branded Floyd Rose locking tremolo with built-in D-Tuna handles the abuse, backed by a Floyd Rose R2 locking nut to keep tuning stable. EVH tuners and black hardware complete the look, finished off in a Tobacco Sunburst gloss polyurethane finish.
