The Valentine is Ernie Ball Music Man’s take on a versatile, road-ready workhorse, built around a slab ash body that keeps weight down without sacrificing resonance. This example wears the Trans Buttermilk finish over a select roasted maple neck, giving it a vintage-inflected look with modern build quality underneath.
Under the shell pickguard sits a custom SH pickup pairing — a Music Man staggered-pole single coil in the bridge and a chrome-covered humbucker in the neck — wired through a custom active preamp. Push/push controls let you dial in a gain boost or split the humbucker into single-coil territory via the passive tone circuit, so the Valentine covers more sonic ground than its looks suggest.
Playability is handled by Music Man’s Modern tremolo with vintage bent steel saddles, offering pitch flutter without the setup headaches of older designs, plus Schaller M6-IND locking tuners for fast, stable string changes. The 5-bolt neck joint is sculpted for easy upper-fret access, and 22 stainless steel frets on a 10″ radius fingerboard keep bends smooth from open position to the dusty end.
