The EMG BQS System HZ takes the guesswork out of wiring an active EQ into your bass by delivering a complete, pre-assembled control set ready to drop in. It’s designed to work with passive bass pickups as well as EMG’s own HZ pickups, making it a versatile upgrade path whether you’re modding an existing bass or building one from scratch.
At the heart of the system is a pickup balance (blend) control paired with a master volume, giving you quick control over pickup mix and overall output. From there, the EQ section takes over with dedicated bass and treble pots plus a concentric/stacked mid-control, letting you dial in three distinct frequency bands without cluttering your control cavity with extra knobs.
Every EQ knob, along with the balance control, includes a center detent so you always know where flat, unaffected tone lives. Turn clockwise to boost a frequency band, counterclockwise to cut it — simple, predictable, and easy to find your way back to baseline.
What sets this system apart is the variable mid-frequency control. Rather than locking you into a fixed mid-range point, it lets you sweep continuously from 100Hz to 1kHz, so you can target exactly where you want to add punch or scoop out mud before boosting or cutting that specific frequency.
