Description
The Doheny V12 pushes further into territory Leo Fender was exploring in his final years at CLF Research: humbuckers built for total tonal flexibility rather than one signature sound. Where the original G&L Doheny turned heads with the range of its MFD single coils, this V12 variant swaps in a pair of MFD humbuckers developed by Dave and Johnny McLaren specifically to sound convincing across three distinct modes — full series humbucking, parallel humbucking, and single coil — without any mode feeling like an afterthought.
That versatility is put directly in your hands. Each humbucker gets its own 3-way mini toggle, finished with the classic CLF color coding (white for neck, red for bridge), so you can dial in independent coil configurations on the fly rather than relying on a single master switch.
Visually, the Doheny V12 leans hard into period-correct CLF details: a one-piece aluminum control plate/pickguard finished in black crinkle powdercoat, chrome-plated CLF knobs for volume, treble, and bass machined to exacting tolerances, and a Dual Fulcrum Vibrato fitted with a 3/16″ stainless steel arm. Modern forged brass saddles and block sit underneath that vintage-styled bridge, blending old-world look with current build quality.
Finish options include:
- Alpine White over Alder, black crinkle pickguard, Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
- Jet Black over Alder, black crinkle pickguard, Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
- Purpleburst over Swamp Ash, black crinkle pickguard, maple fingerboard
Every Doheny V12 is built at the historic CLF Research / G&L facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California — the same Birthplace of Bolt-on where Leo Fender founded CLF Research in 1966 before launching G&L in 1980.
