Description
J Mascis has spent decades turning Jazzmasters into fuzzed-out feedback machines, and this Squier model bears his personal fingerprints on every detail. From pickup voicing to hardware choices to the aged-white finish, Mascis dialed in the specs himself so this guitar delivers the huge, wailing tone he’s known for at an accessible price point.
Underneath that Vintage White finish is a basswood body paired with a maple neck carved into a comfortable “C” profile. The laurel fingerboard’s 9.5″ radius and 21 jumbo frets make bending and soloing feel natural, whether you’re chasing sludgy riffs or shimmering clean tones. The large ’60s-style headstock carries J Mascis’s own signature stamped on the back, along with the gold and black Squier logo up front.
Two single-coil Jazzmaster pickups drive the electronics, controlled through the classic dual-circuit setup: a 3-position toggle for pickup selection plus a 2-position slide switch that flips between lead and rhythm tone circuits, each with independent volume and tone. It’s a quirky but musical control scheme that opens up tonal options most guitars don’t offer.
Hardware includes an Adjusto-Matic bridge mated to a vintage-style floating tremolo tailpiece, vintage-style tuning machines, and chrome hardware throughout, all set off by aged white plastic parts—knobs, switch tips, and pickup covers—for that road-worn look straight out of the box.
