Description
The AHB-1 Blackouts set pairs a high-output bridge pickup with a screaming neck unit, both wrapped in nickel metal covers for classic looks and extra shielding. This 9-volt active design was engineered specifically for players who live in drop tunings and heavy genres.
Where most USA-made active pickups rely on an unbalanced differential preamp that struggles to fully cancel hum, Seymour Duncan took a different route. The Blackouts use balanced inputs in their active circuit, cutting noise by 12-14dB compared to typical actives while actually pushing out more lows, more highs, and more overall output. The result is a pickup that sounds bigger and quieter at the same time – dark, punchy chords and leads with real midrange bite, tailor-made for old school metal, thrash, punk, garage rock, and anything tuned low.
These humbuckers drop into any standard humbucker-routed electric guitar and work in either the bridge or neck slot – the neck position runs with the jumper unattached for proper voicing. Everything needed to wire them in is included: 25K pots, a stereo jack, battery clip, pin jumper, and the remaining mounting hardware. There’s also a built-in option to switch between output levels, so you can dial in the aggression to match the song.
