PRS teamed up with John Mayer to reimagine a beloved vintage guitar shape through the lens of modern craftsmanship, and the SE Silver Sky brings that vision to players at a fraction of the cost of the original. This Nylon Blue example pairs a lightweight poplar body with a maple neck and matching maple fingerboard, giving it a bright, resonant character right out of the case.
Under the hood, three 635JM “S” single-coil pickups handle tone duties, delivering the chiming highs and full, rounded lows that define this classic pickup arrangement. Whether you’re chasing sparkling cleans or want a pickup lineup that cleans up nicely with a touch of drive, this trio covers a wide tonal range with authority.
PRS made a deliberate choice on the fingerboard radius here. Instead of copying the original Silver Sky’s 7.25-inch radius exactly, the SE version uses a slightly flatter 8.5-inch curve. The result is a neck that still feels rooted in vintage playing tradition but responds with the smoothness and bend-friendliness players expect from more contemporary instruments.
This guitar exists because PRS wanted the Silver Sky experience available to more players without cutting corners on quality. It’s a case study in the brand’s dual identity — always pushing forward on design while staying grounded in respect for guitar-making tradition.
