Description
The Doheny V12 pushes past the original Doheny’s already-versatile MFD single coils by tackling something Leo Fender himself was chasing in his later CLF Research years: humbuckers that work equally well split apart or locked together. Dave and Johnny McLaren spent years refining these MFD humbuckers so each one sounds convincing whether it’s running in series, parallel, or coil-split single mode — no dead zones, no compromise settings.
What makes this practical rather than just clever is the control layout. Each pickup gets its own 3-way mini toggle, color-matched in CLF tradition (white for neck, red for bridge), so you’re dialing in tones on the fly rather than digging through a manual switching scheme. Volume, treble, and bass run through the PTB system, letting you shape the low end and top end independently of overall output.
Visually, it leans hard into the period-correct CLF aesthetic: black crinkle powdercoat on a one-piece aluminum control plate/pickguard, chrome-plated machined knobs, and a Dual Fulcrum vibrato fitted with a 3/16″ stainless steel arm alongside forged brass saddles and block — vintage look, modern hardware underneath.
This particular build comes in Alpine White over an Alder body with a black crinkle pickguard and Caribbean rosewood fingerboard.
