Description
The JA-90 came out of a real conversation between Fender and Jim Adkins, guitarist and voice of Jimmy Eat World, who wanted his own signature take on the Telecaster Thinline. Working from his personal TC-90 as a starting point, Fender reworked the spec sheet with him to land on this version — a guitar built around dynamic P-90 snap and semi-hollow air.
A mahogany set neck joins a semi-hollow ash body, giving the JA-90 a woody openness and a bit less heft than a solid-body Tele. The Modern “C”-shaped neck wears a 9.5″ radius rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, white pearloid dot inlays, and a graphite nut, all finished in gloss urethane. On the front, a matching painted headstock carries Adkins’ signature on the back.
Tone comes from a pair of Seymour Duncan P-90s — an SP90-1NRWRP Vintage in the neck and an SP90-3B Custom in the bridge — wired to independent volume and tone knobs for each pickup, plus a standard 3-way toggle for bridge, both, or neck. An Adjusto-Matic bridge with anchored tailpiece handles intonation and sustain, while sealed cast tuning machines and chrome hardware keep things stable. Details like knurled dome knobs, black plastic parts, a 3-ply black pickguard, and oversized strap buttons round out the build.
