Description
Chris Fleming of the Fender Custom Shop took his original Baja Telecaster concept and dialed it back to full 1960s spec for this Classic Player model. The alder body wears a gloss polyester 3-Tone Sunburst finish, paired with a maple neck carved in the slightly beefier ’60s “C” profile and topped with a Pau Ferro fingerboard – a smooth, fast neck that still gives your fretting hand plenty to hold onto.
Tone comes from a set of American Vintage pickups: a ’52-style single-coil in the neck and a ’58-style single-coil at the bridge, both researched to capture the real character of 1960s Fender guitars. Where this Tele pulls ahead of a standard model is in its switching. A special four-way blade switch adds a series-wired position for a thicker, hotter tone beyond the usual three settings, while an S-1 switch built right into the volume knob flips the pickups from in-phase to out-of-phase when both are engaged – opening up thinner, hollowed-out tones you won’t get from a vintage-correct wiring harness.
Hardware stays true to the era with a three-saddle American Vintage strings-through-body bridge, vintage-style tuners, and a 4-bolt neckplate engraved “Custom Shop Designed.” A 3-ply parchment pickguard and knurled flat-top knobs round out the vintage-correct look.
