Description
When rock guitarists started chasing thicker, more aggressive tones in the early 1970s, Fender turned to Seth Lover – the mind behind the original humbucking pickup – to craft something that could compete without losing Fender’s signature clarity. What he came up with was the Wide Range pickup: an oversized dual-coil design built with threaded CuNiFe rod magnets, giving it a brighter, more articulate voice than a typical humbucker while still delivering serious output.
The Telecaster Custom that carried these pickups only lasted until 1979, and once it was gone, so were the true CuNiFe-magnet pickups that made it special. This American Original 70s Telecaster Custom brings that formula back, pairing the era-correct Wide Range pickup with a Maple fingerboard and a Vintage Blonde finish that nods straight to the original run.
It’s a guitar built for players who want the twang of a Telecaster with extra low-end punch and midrange growl on tap – equally at home cutting through a clean amp or pushing into overdrive.
