Before there were signature guitars, there was Eddie Van Halen’s homemade red, white and black striped 5150, born in 1984 and copied endlessly ever since. EVH Gear’s Striped Series 5150 puts that same visual punch and no-nonsense single-pickup setup into a guitar built for players, not just collectors.
The basswood body mirrors the original’s dimensions, paired with a bolt-on quartersawn maple neck carved into a modified “C” profile with a hand-rubbed back finish. That classic “hockey stick” headstock isn’t just for looks – it’s part of the DNA. The compound-radius maple fingerboard (12″ flattening to 16″) carries 22 jumbo frets and black dot inlays, and there’s a heel-mounted truss rod wheel so you can dial in relief without pulling the neck off.
One pickup, done right: a custom EVH Wolfgang alnico 2 humbucker sits at the bridge, tuned for articulate power, thick rhythm tone, and sustain that hangs in the air without turning muddy. The single low-friction volume knob is EVH-branded and built for smooth, even swells rather than the usual scratchy taper.
Trem duties go to an EVH-branded Floyd Rose locking bridge – dive-bomb certified and fitted with the patented EVH D-Tuna for instant drop-D switching mid-song. Fine tuners keep things precise even after abuse.
Finished with the unmistakable red hologram numbers and star decals, this guitar looks every bit as aggressive as it plays.
