Marty Friedman rewrote the rulebook on lead guitar, first alongside Jason Becker in Cacophony, then as a driving creative force in Megadeth’s thrash heyday, and later through a run of 12 solo records that fused Eastern melodic sensibility with Western hard rock aggression. The X Series MF-1 puts that vision into a genuinely playable, budget-conscious instrument built with Friedman’s direct input.
The Monarkh-style body pairs mahogany with a 3/4″ plain maple top under a gloss black finish accented by white binding on both body and neck. A one-piece mahogany set-thru neck, reinforced with graphite and joined via a scarf joint, delivers stability and sustain on the fast, expressive runs Friedman is known for. The 24.75″ scale bound rosewood fingerboard has a 12″ radius, 22 jumbo frets, and pearloid block inlays, all sitting under a reversed 3+3 Jackson AT-1 headstock.
Dual EMG MF Signature humbuckers, developed specifically for Friedman, give you searing lead tone and articulate rhythm work in equal measure. Independent volume and tone controls for each pickup — routed through dome-style knobs — plus a 3-way toggle let you dial in everything from raw bridge bite to warmer, vocal-like neck tones. A Jackson compensated and adjustable bridge with anchored tailpiece and die-cast locking tuners round out the hardware, keeping tuning rock-solid and sustain long.
