The Wolfgang Special takes Eddie Van Halen’s signature design philosophy and packages it into a more accessible build, without cutting corners on feel or performance. Made at EVH’s Mexico facility, this Vintage White example features an arched-top basswood body finished in gloss polyurethane, giving it a sleek, resonant foundation with classic Wolfgang contours.
The bolt-on neck is quartersawn maple with a hand-rubbed urethane finish, shaped to the specific Wolfgang profile that Eddie favored for speed and comfort. Its maple fingerboard uses a compound radius that flattens from 12″ to 16″ as you move up the neck, so chords feel natural near the nut while bends and solos stay effortless up top. Rolled fingerboard edges and 22 jumbo frets add to the fast, worn-in playability, all sitting on a 25.5″ scale with a 1.625″ nut width.
Tone comes from a matched pair of EVH Wolfgang direct-mount humbuckers, controlled simply with master volume and master tone knobs topped in domed black. For dive-bombs and pitch tricks, the EVH-branded Floyd Rose locking tremolo includes a D-Tuna for instant drop-D access mid-song, paired with a Floyd Rose R2 locking nut and EVH tuners for rock-solid tuning stability.
