Description
The Classic Player Jazzmaster Special takes the offbeat charm of Fender’s classic offset and quietly reworks it for guitarists who want that Jazzmaster look and swagger without the quirks that used to come with it. The alder body wears a Black polyester finish and carries a bolt-on maple neck with a Pau Ferro fingerboard, shaped in a comfortable “C” profile that suits both chording and lead work.
Fingerboard curvature sits at a 9.5″ radius, flatter than a true vintage Jazzmaster but still rounded enough to feel natural under the fretting hand and to make bending strings less of a fight. Twenty-one medium jumbo frets give plenty of room to dig in without feeling cramped.
Where this model really departs from the originals is under the hood: two Special Design Hot single-coil Jazzmaster pickups push more output and a fatter voice than the vintage-spec versions, wired through the classic lead/rhythm dual-circuit setup with independent volume and tone for each mode. Fender also revised the neck pocket for a steeper back-angle and shifted the tremolo plate closer to the bridge, which increases the string break angle over the Adjusto-Matic bridge, tightens tuning stability, and cuts down on unwanted sympathetic ringing behind the saddles. The vintage-style floating tremolo keeps its lock button for old-school flutter and dive-bombs alike.
