The Jazzmaster was never really about jazz – it just took the guitar world a decade or two to catch up. First introduced in 1958 as Fender’s most sophisticated model (and the first Fender ever built with a rosewood fingerboard), it went on to become the go-to weapon for surf, gospel, new wave, and indie players who wanted something with more attitude than a Strat and more mystery than a Tele. The American Professional Jazzmaster picks up that legacy and drags it firmly into the present.
At the heart of the tone are a pair of V-Mod Jazzmaster pickups, designed by pickup guru Michael Frank (the man behind the Eric Johnson Signature Strat pickups). They’re overwound for a hotter, punchier output while retaining vintage warmth and Fender’s signature clarity. A treble-bleed circuit on the volume controls keeps the top end intact even as you roll back the gain, so your tone doesn’t get muddy at lower volumes.
Feel-wise, the new modern “Deep C” neck profile splits the difference between a Modern C and a U shape, giving your hand something substantial to hold onto without feeling clubby. Narrow-tall frets make bending and fretting chords up the neck feel precise and controlled. Down at the bridge, brass Mustang saddles paired with a screw-in tremolo arm keep strings locked in place and let you set your preferred arm tension.
