Fender didn’t just tweak the old American Vintage lineup here—they went back to original vintage instruments, restored period tooling dies, and re-voiced the pickups to nail down exactly what a 1965 Stratocaster should look, feel, and sound like. The result is this ’65 reissue in Three-color Sunburst, built with a level of historical accuracy that goes well beyond a typical reissue.
The defining feature of the ’65 Strat is its neck: a thick C-shaped maple profile paired with a round-laminated dark rosewood fingerboard and larger pearl dot inlays, exactly as Fender shifted to in that era. It carries a 7.25″ fingerboard radius, 21 vintage-style frets, a 1.650″ nut width, and the classic 25.5″ scale, all set up with a vintage-style heel-adjust truss rod.
Under the hood, the S/S/S pickup configuration uses American Vintage ’65 Grey-Bottom single-coils in all three positions, wired to a 5-way blade switch, master volume, and dual tone controls. The lightweight alder body wears a three-ply white pickguard drilled with the correct 11 holes, while chrome hardware includes an American Vintage synchronized tremolo, bone nut, and single-line Fender Deluxe vintage-style tuners with period-correct spacing. Aged white plastic knobs and Fender USA 250R NPS strings (.010-.046) round out the vintage-correct details.
