The CLF Research Doheny V12, introduced in 2017, is a clear expression of that mindset, pairing a comfortable, road-ready feel with design cues that trace back to the earliest days of the solidbody electric guitar.
The heart of the Doheny V12’s sound comes from its two MFD humbucking pickups, developed by Dave and Johnny McLaren. As longtime students of Leo’s work — often referred to as “Leophites” — the McLaren brothers drew directly from his personal archive of notes and schematics to engineer a pickup set with unusual tonal depth and range. The result is a guitar capable of moving convincingly between clean, articulate tones and thicker, more aggressive voicings without losing clarity.
Finished in Purpleburst, the Doheny V12 brings visual character to match its tonal versatility, making it as suited to the stage as it is to the studio.
