Leo Fender had one more trick up his sleeve for the ASAT platform, and the Bluesboy is it. Rather than sticking with dual single coils, G&L swapped in a warm alnico humbucker at the neck while keeping a punchy MFD™ single-coil pickup at the bridge, giving this bolt-on workhorse a split personality that covers far more ground than a typical single-cut.
The bridge pickup sits in a traditional boxed-steel bridge with individual brass saddles, so you get crisp, harmonically rich attack along with fine-tuned intonation per string. Roll the 3-way selector to the neck position and the AS4255C humbucker takes over with rounded, vocal warmth that’s built for blues bends and thick lead tones. Blend both together and the Bluesboy opens up into territory most single-pickup-per-position guitars can’t touch.
This example wears a Lake Placid Blue finish over a basswood body, paired with a tortoise pickguard and a tinted gloss neck for a look that’s as classic as the wiring underneath. The Hard-Rock Maple neck carries a medium C profile with a 9″ radius rosewood fingerboard, 22 medium jumbo nickel frets, and a 1 5/8″ nut width, all sitting on the familiar 25 1/2″ scale.
Sealed-back tuning keys at an 18:1 ratio keep things stable while you dig in, and simple volume/tone controls put the focus squarely on the pickups doing the work.
