Description
Most humbuckers cancel hum by sensing the string at two points, but that same trick also wipes out some of the frequencies that give a pickup its character. DiMarzio tackled this tradeoff head-on with the Humbucker From Hell, engineering a design that cancels far less of the tonal content along with the noise.
The result is a pickup that sounds noticeably brighter and cleaner than a typical humbucker, edging into glassy, single-coil territory. Think Strat-style clarity and sparkle, but backed by output roughly on par with a classic PAF. It’s a distinctive combination that opens up tonal options a standard humbucker can’t touch.
DiMarzio designed the DP156W primarily for the neck position, where its clarity and openness can shine without getting muddy – a spot where many humbuckers tend to sound dark or compressed. Dropped into that role, it gives single-coil chime and articulation while retaining the quiet, noise-canceling benefit of a humbucker.
- Model: DiMarzio DP156W Humbucker From Hell
- Finish: White
- Designed primarily as a neck pickup
- Reduced frequency cancellation for a brighter, glassier tone
- Output comparable to a PAF-style humbucker
For players chasing Strat-like sparkle without giving up humbucker hum-cancellation, the Humbucker From Hell offers a genuinely different tonal path.
