Description
The Fullerton Deluxe Doheny pulls together some of the most requested combinations from G&L’s Option Order menu into one production-ready guitar. At its heart are newly developed Magnetic Field Design (MFD) jazz pickups — the first of their kind to appear on any production G&L. They share the narrow bobbin aperture and broad coil splay of Leo’s jumbo MFD ASAT Special pickups, but the resemblance ends at construction. Wound on a classic jazz bobbin aperture with traditional Formvar wire, the Doheny’s pickups are voiced for jangle and chime rather than twang, giving this offset a distinctly airy, articulate character.
An onboard P.T.B. (Passive Treble and Bass) System replaces the standard single tone knob with two independent passive controls, letting you cut treble and bass frequencies separately for far more tonal shaping than a typical setup allows.
Bending is handled by a Leo Fender-designed Dual-Fulcrum vibrato — a precision piece of engineering that lets you push pitch up or down with rock-solid tuning stability, all through a substantial aluminum vibrato arm that feels smooth under the hand.
The Doheny ships in three finish combinations, each built on an alder body:
- 3-Tone Sunburst, 3-ply tortoise pickguard, Maple or Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
- Matcha Green, 3-ply tortoise pickguard, Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
- Jet Black, 3-ply parchment pickguard, Caribbean rosewood fingerboard
Every Fullerton Deluxe Doheny is built in California at the historic CLF Research / G&L facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton — the same site where Leo Fender founded G&L in 1980, and long regarded as the birthplace of the bolt-on guitar.
