Description
The Fullerton Deluxe Doheny takes G&L’s Option Order favorites and rolls them into one guitar, giving the offset bolt-on body a fresh sonic personality. At its heart are newly designed Magnetic Field Design jazz pickups—the first of their kind on a production G&L. They share the narrow bobbin aperture and wide coil splay of Leo’s jumbo MFD ASAT Special pickups, but with a classic jazz-style bobbin wound in traditional Formvar wire, they’re voiced for jangle rather than twang. It’s the tonal direction many suspect Leo himself would have explored given more time.
Versatility comes courtesy of the P.T.B. System (Passive Treble and Bass Controls), a circuit that goes well beyond a standard tone knob. Two independent tone controls let you cut treble and bass separately, giving you far more shaping power than a typical passive setup.
Playability gets a boost from Leo Fender’s own Dual-Fulcrum vibrato, engineered for rock-solid tuning stability whether you’re pushing the bar up or pulling it down. The beefy aluminum arm adds a smooth, confident feel to every dive and flutter.
The Doheny is offered in three finish/hardware combinations:
- 3-Tone Sunburst over Alder body, 3-ply tortoise pickguard, Maple or Caribbean Rosewood fingerboard
- Matcha Green over Alder body, 3-ply tortoise pickguard, Caribbean Rosewood fingerboard
- Jet Black over Alder body, 3-ply parchment pickguard, Caribbean Rosewood fingerboard
Every Fullerton Deluxe Doheny is built in the historic CLF Research / G&L facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California—the birthplace of the bolt-on neck, and home to G&L since Leo Fender founded the company in 1980.
