Description
The Fullerton Deluxe Comanche pulls together some of the most requested combos from G&L’s Option Order menu into one ready-to-ship guitar. Bodies are alder or swamp ash depending on finish, matched to pickguards chosen specifically to complement each color, and the whole neck wears G&L’s Clear Tint Satin finish for a smooth, understated feel.
Four finish combinations are offered: 3-Tone Sunburst over alder with a 3-ply parchment guard, Midnight Blue Metallic over alder with a 3-ply pearl guard, Blonde over swamp ash with a 1-ply white guard, and Honeyburst over swamp ash with a 3-ply pearl guard. All feature maple fingerboards.
What sets the Comanche apart at first glance is the shape of its Magnetic Field Design Z-Coil pickups, designed by Leo Fender himself. They’re built to deliver a bright, sparkly top end and a solid low end while staying free of 60-cycle hum. Backing them off with the volume and bass knobs reveals a surprisingly glassy, detailed side to their character, thanks to the Comanche’s PTB (Passive Treble and Bass) circuit, which lets you cut treble and bass independently through two separate tone controls.
A mini-toggle Expander Switch adds extra pickup combinations beyond the standard five-way, including neck+bridge together (a convincing nod to the ASAT Special) or all three pickups at once. Rounding things out is Leo’s Dual-Fulcrum vibrato, engineered for rock-solid tuning stability during aggressive bends, with a smooth-feeling aluminum arm.
- Alder or swamp ash body depending on finish
- Maple fingerboard with Clear Tint Satin neck finish
- MFD Z-Coil pickups (hum-canceling)
- PTB passive treble/bass control
- Mini-toggle Expander Switch
- Dual-Fulcrum vibrato with aluminum arm
Built at G&L’s original Fullerton, California facility, this is Leo Fender’s last word on the double-cutaway bolt-on design. Due to its offset pickup layout, it’s available in right-hand configuration only.
