Description
The Fullerton Deluxe Comanche represents the last word Leo Fender had on the double-cutaway bolt-on design, drawing together decades of insight into one guitar. It’s built around G&L’s Magnetic Field Design Z-Coil pickups, instantly recognizable by their shape and prized for a top end that stays bright and articulate while the low end stays full and warm—no 60-cycle hum to fight with.
Pull back the volume and bass knobs and these pickups reveal a surprisingly glassy, detailed character, thanks in part to the Comanche’s PTB (Passive Treble and Bass) circuit, which lets you carve treble and bass independently rather than relying on a single generic tone control. A mini-toggle Expander Switch adds extra pickup combinations beyond the standard five-position switch, including all three pickups at once or a neck+bridge blend that convincingly mimics an ASAT Special tone.
Bridging it all is Leo’s Dual-Fulcrum vibrato system, engineered for rock-solid tuning stability whether you’re bending sharp or diving deep, and finished off with a substantial aluminum arm that feels smooth under the hand.
This 2020 Deluxe edition pairs classic G&L Option Order combinations with a satin Clear Tint finish that lets the wood grain show through. Body woods are matched thoughtfully to finish and pickguard:
- 3-Tone Sunburst over Alder, 3-ply parchment pickguard, maple fingerboard
- Midnight Blue Metallic over Alder, 3-ply pearl pickguard, maple fingerboard
- Blonde over Swamp Ash, 1-ply white pickguard, maple fingerboard
- Honeyburst over Swamp Ash, 3-ply pearl pickguard, maple fingerboard
Every Comanche is built at G&L’s original Fullerton, California facility on Fender Avenue—the Birthplace of Bolt-on—carrying forward the standards Leo Fender set when he founded the company in 1980. Note: due to its offset pickup layout, this model is offered in right-hand configuration only.
