Description
The CLF Research Skyhawk resurrects a fan-favorite ’80s design, built around George Fullerton’s evolved double-cutaway shape with a subtle offset, slim waist, and comfortable curves. His arched pickguard—arguably his best take on the form—flows into a reproduction CLF control plate finished in authentic black wrinkle powdercoat, topped with chrome-plated CLF knobs handling volume plus the P.T.B. system’s separate treble and bass cut controls for far more tonal reach than a standard tone knob.
The Dual Fulcrum Vibrato pairs a period-correct CLF 3/16″ machined stainless steel arm with modern forged brass saddles and block, blending vintage looks with current hardware performance.
Under the hood are three Leo Fender-designed MFD single coil pickups, the same design that gave the original 1984 Skyhawk (and the 1983 SC-3) its meaty-yet-sparkly character, and later became the backbone of the S-500 line from 1989 forward. This build borrows the S-500’s mini-toggle Expander Switch, working alongside the five-position switch to unlock additional pickup combinations—including all three pickups at once—so nothing gets left on the table tonally.

Built at the historic CLF Research / G&L facility on Fender Avenue in Fullerton, California—the birthplace of the bolt-on neck—every Skyhawk carries forward the legacy Leo Fender started with G&L in 1980.
