Description
The McCarty 594 has long been one of PRS’s most revered Core models, and this SE edition is the first time its formula has trickled down into the SE line. That means you’re getting the same fundamental tonewood recipe found on its pricier siblings: a mahogany body joined with a maple top, a combination that’s stuck around for decades because it simply works, delivering low-end weight without sacrificing note definition.
Underneath the hood, a pair of low-wind 58/15 LT “S” pickups do the heavy lifting. These humbuckers borrow their DNA from vintage ’50s designs but tune the output for extra articulation, so chords stay clear and single notes cut through without turning muddy or harsh.
Hardware-wise, PRS didn’t cut corners. A 2-piece bridge and PRS-designed tuners anchor the guitar for reliable sustain and tuning stability, which matters whether you’re tracking in a studio or bouncing through a three-set gig.
The neck is where this guitar really shows its character: a rosewood-topped mahogany neck carved into PRS’s Pattern Vintage profile. It’s got a touch more shoulder than a slim modern neck, which fans of thumb-over-neck technique and old-school neck carves will appreciate immediately.
