Description
Malcolm Young never needed flash — he needed a guitar that hit hard and stayed out of the way of the riff. The G6131T-MY recreates his battle-worn “Beast,” a Jet stripped down to one pickup and worn to the wood through decades of stage time. Gretsch rebuilds that story here, right down to the fake screw holes where the missing pickups used to sit.
The body is chambered mahogany with a maple top, giving the guitar an open, resonant growl before the single TV Jones Power’Tron bridge pickup even gets involved. That pickup is the whole voice of this instrument — high-output, midrange-forward, and built to cut through a wall of Marshall stacks the way Young’s rhythm parts always did. Controls are kept dead simple: one volume for the pickup, a master volume, and a master tone, nothing to distract from just playing.
Details worth noting on the build: a bound ebony fingerboard with 22 jumbo frets and Neo-Classic thumbnail inlays, a Space-Control bridge with ebony base sitting atop a ’60s-style Jet tailpiece, bone nut, and Schaller die-cast tuners. The thin-skin semi-gloss lacquer finish is intentional — it wears in fast and feels like a guitar that’s already got some road on it. Aged Natural stain up top, black on the neck and sides, with aged-white binding tying it together.
