Description
Eddie Cochran’s career lasted barely three years, but the sound he carved out with a heavily modified Gretsch hollow body still echoes through rock and roll today. The G6120 Eddie Cochran SIGNATURE model, part of the Professional Collection, recreates that setup down to the details that mattered most to him.
The Nashville-shaped body is built from 3-ply arched maple top, back, and sides with parallel bracing and double-bound oversized F holes, finished in a gloss urethane Western Maple Stain. Inside, a special “open” body design shapes the acoustic character before the pickups even kick in. Two-ply vintage white/black binding wraps the body, matched by single-ply binding on the neck and headstock.
Up top, the 2-piece maple neck carries a 9.5″ radius rosewood fingerboard loaded with 22 frets and western-themed pearloid inlays — cactus, steer heads, and fences — plus red side dot markers and Cochran’s signature on the truss rod cover. A polished brass nut and 1.6875″ nut width round out the playing feel across a 24.6″ scale.
Electronics are where this guitar earns its reputation: a DynaSonic single-coil bridge pickup paired with a Lindy Fralin “Dog Ear” single-coil in the neck position, run through a 3-way toggle with independent volume controls plus master volume and tone. A compensated aluminum bridge with rosewood base and a Bigsby B6GBVF vibrato tailpiece handle the low end, while gold-plated Grover V98G Sta-Tite tuners keep things in check.
