Description
The G5422G-12 Electromatic brings the doubled-string chime of a 12-string into Gretsch’s Classic Hollow Body line, giving players that unmistakable ’60s shimmer with real hollow-body air behind it. It’s built as a step-up Gretsch for guitarists who want authentic tone and construction without a custom-shop price tag.
Under the laminated maple top sits new trestle block bracing, a design that tightens the connection between the top and back of the body. The payoff is a hollow guitar that resists feedback better than you’d expect, with a quicker attack, sharper note definition, and longer sustain. Driving that voice are a pair of all-new FT-5E Filter’Tron pickups, delivering the punchy, chimey growl Gretsch hollow bodies are known for, now with added clarity and presence.
The neck is a new Classic “C” profile carved maple, paired with a 12″ radius laurel fingerboard and pearloid Hump Block inlays for a fretting hand that feels modern while looking straight out of the late ’50s. Wiring is genuinely versatile: master volume with a treble bleed circuit, master tone, independent bridge and neck pickup volumes, and a three-way pickup toggle.
Other refinements include oversized bound F-holes, multi-ply body binding, the smaller late-’50s G6120-style bound headstock, a Graph Tech NuBone nut, a secured Adjusto-Matic bridge, and Gretsch’s signature G-cutout tailpiece. Sealed die-cast tuners keep those twelve strings stable and in tune.
