Description
The So-Cal Style 1 HSS FR revives Charvel’s original attitude with modern build quality, made in the USA as part of the flagship Select series. It’s built around period-correct ’80s body contours, a carved neck profile, and a fast compound radius board with rolled edges – details aimed squarely at players who want vintage feel without sacrificing performance.
Underneath the Snow Blind Satin finish sits an alder body paired with a one-piece quartersawn maple neck, complete with a one-way vintage-style bullet truss rod. The 22-fret fingerboard runs a 12″-to-16″ compound radius, so chords stay comfortable near the nut while bends up high resist fretting out. A single-ply black pickguard and black hardware keep the look clean and purposeful.
Tone comes from a DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion in the bridge and DiMarzio DP116 HS2 units in the middle and neck, wired to a five-way super-switch that goes well beyond a standard HSS layout: bridge alone, bridge inner coil with middle, bridge inner coil with neck, neck and middle together, or neck alone. A single master volume knob keeps things simple, feeding a top-mounted Strat-style output jack.
Locking down the low end is a non-recessed Floyd Rose Original bridge with a 37mm block and matching locking nut, giving you dive-bomb capability without routing compromises. Charvel-branded tuners round out the hardware.
