This Seymour Duncan Custom Staggered set takes the familiar single-coil recipe and turns up the output, giving you a pickup voice that’s rooted in vintage Strat tone but ready to handle Texas blues-rock, classic rock, and heavier styles with authority.
Visually and tonally, these pickups share DNA with the SSL-1, but the SSL-5 design at the heart of this set uses an over-wound coil to boost output, add sustain, and bring out richer harmonic content. Plug in and you’ll notice pickups that push harder and cut through a dense mix, yet still clean up gracefully when you roll back the volume knob for that in-between, glassy Strat character.
Because it’s a calibrated 3-pickup set, each unit is matched in output and tone to work together as a cohesive system rather than three unrelated pickups thrown into one guitar. The middle pickup is wired reverse-wound/reverse-polarity, so switching to positions 2 and 4 delivers true hum-canceling performance — a detail that matters as much for studio quiet as for stage reliability.
