Description
The Wolfgang isn’t a signature model dreamed up in a boardroom — it’s the product of over two years of prototyping and a full year of merciless in-concert testing during Van Halen’s 2007-2008 world tour. Eddie ran various Wolfgang prototypes through every song, every night, tweaking components until the guitar matched exactly what he needed on stage. Performance data from months of gigging confirmed it could hold up, night after night, without fail.
This USA-built example in Silver carries the same spec sheet as the guitars Eddie plays in the studio and on tour. A basswood body with an arched maple top and 5-ply binding sits under a gloss urethane finish, paired with a quartersawn maple neck finished in hand-rubbed urethane and reinforced with two graphite rods for stability. The ebony fretboard uses a 12″ to 16″ compound radius across 22 vintage stainless steel frets with block inlays, making bends and low-position chords equally comfortable.
Tonally, hard-mounted, double-potted custom EVH humbuckers in the neck and bridge run through EVH’s reverse-style 3-position switching (neck / both / bridge) with simple master volume and tone controls — low-friction pots keep things quiet and consistent. Hardware is blacked out throughout, anchored by an EVH-branded Floyd Rose locking tremolo with a built-in D-Tuna for quick drop-D dives, a Floyd Rose locking nut, and Schaller chrome string retainer.
