The Jazzmaster started life as a jazz-guitar experiment in 1958, but musicians had other plans for it — surf, gospel, new wave, indie rock, you name it. That offset waist and effortless playing feel turned out to be perfect for pretty much everything except what it was designed for. This American Professional version keeps that quirky spirit intact while updating the parts that matter most on stage and in the studio.
At the heart of the tone are V-Mod pickups, developed by pickup designer Michael Frank (also behind the Eric Johnson Signature Strat pickups). They’re overwound for punch and definition, giving you that vintage Jazzmaster warmth with more output. A treble-bleed circuit keeps the top end intact as you roll back the volume, so your tone doesn’t turn to mud when you dial things down.
The neck wears a new “Deep C” profile — fuller in the shoulders than a standard Modern C, closer to a C/U hybrid — that fills your hand nicely whether you’re barring chords or picking single notes. Narrow-tall frets make string bends land accurately and keep chords ringing true all the way up the neck. Down at the bottom end, an improved bridge with brass Mustang saddles and a screw-in tremolo arm locks strings in place and lets you set your preferred arm tension.
Finished in Olympic White over a rosewood board, this one’s built to look as clean as it plays.
