Description
The G&L Legacy takes the S-500 and Comanche lineage and distills it into a bolt-on that honors Leo Fender’s original vision while sharpening a few key details for today’s players. This example arrives in a sleek Jet Black finish with a Hard-Rock Maple neck and matching maple fingerboard, offering crisp visual contrast alongside its bright, articulate voice.
At the heart of the tone are G&L’s CLF-100 Alnico V single-coils, built in Fullerton, California to a spec that took real detective work to nail down. Pickup designer Paul Gagon spent time studying original G&L prints and interviewing builders who’d been winding pickups since the 1950s, discovering that the true character of those early bolt-on guitars didn’t come from a single fixed spec but from subtle variances in the winding process. The CLF-100s capture that elusive chime and quack, earning praise from Guitar Player and Guitar World alike.
Beyond the vintage-informed pickups, the Legacy incorporates Leo’s PTB (Passive Treble and Bass) circuit across all three positions, giving you far more tonal shaping range than a standard vintage layout allows. The Dual-Fulcrum vibrato, another Leo Fender design, delivers rock-solid tuning stability whether you’re bending sharp or diving deep, and its aluminum arm feels smooth under the hand.
Built on a Basswood body with a Medium C neck profile, 12″ radius, and 1 5/8″ nut width, the Legacy is comfortable for a wide range of playing styles.
