The Stratocaster has been the reference point for electric guitar tone since 1954, and the American Professional series carries that legacy forward without reinventing it. This isn’t a redesign of a classic — it’s the original, refined with modern details that make it easier to play and more consistent to work with, whether you’re chasing vintage blues tones or pushing into heavier territory.
At the heart of this guitar are three V-Mod single-coil pickups, designed by veteran pickup engineer Tim Shaw. Rather than using identical coils in each position, Shaw voiced the neck, middle, and bridge pickups individually and mixed alnico magnet types to dial in the right balance of output and clarity for each. A treble-bleed circuit on the volume control means you can back off the volume without losing top-end sparkle — a small addition that makes a real difference when riding dynamics live.
The maple neck wears a modern ‘Deep C’ profile, a shape that splits the difference between a Modern C and a U-profile with slightly fuller shoulders. It fills the hand naturally for both chord work and single-note runs. Paired with 22 narrow-tall frets, string bends land accurately and chords stay intonated cleanly all the way up the neck. A bone nut adds sustain and tuning stability at the string break point.
Fender also updated the tremolo system with a pop-in arm that stays put under aggressive playing but can still be tension-adjusted to taste — no more arms working loose mid-set.
