Description
By 1965 the Jazzmaster had shed its early surf-rock roots and was quietly becoming the go-to guitar for guitarists who wanted something different. Fender’s American Vintage ’65 Jazzmaster rebuilds that mid-’60s instrument from the ground up, with the company going back to original tooling dies and actual vintage examples to nail every detail rather than simply reissuing an old blueprint.
This particular example wears an Olympic White finish over an alder body, sprayed in Fender’s Flash Coat Lacquer for a period-correct feel. The maple neck carries a Mid ’60s “C” profile with a bound, round-laminated rosewood fingerboard and larger pearl dot inlays – a refinement that arrived specifically in ’65 – topped with a 7.25″ radius and 21 vintage-style frets. A bone nut and 1.650″ width keep the vintage playability intact.
Tonally, it’s built around a pair of American Vintage ’65 Single-Coil Jazzmaster pickups, wired through the classic dual-circuit setup: a 3-position toggle for pickup selection plus a slide switch toggling between the rhythm and lead circuits, each with its own volume and tone. The white “witch hat” knobs and 4-ply brown shell pickguard complete the look.
Hardware stays true to form with an American Vintage floating tremolo featuring a lock button, single-line Fender Deluxe vintage-style tuners, and chrome/nickel-plated steel hardware throughout. Fender USA 250R strings (.010-.046) come installed.
