This American Original ’60s Stratocaster captures that era of transition: the switch from maple to rosewood fingerboards, the shift from white to mint green pickguards, and a slightly smoother, rounder voice that came with those changes. Fender’s American Original series takes those historical cues and pairs them with just enough modern refinement to make the guitar genuinely playable today, not just a museum piece.
At the heart of its tone are three Pure Vintage ’65 single-coil pickups, wound and built the old way—enamel-coated wire, cloth-covered leads, fiber bobbins, and alnico 5 magnets—for that unmistakable glassy Strat sparkle. The alder body wears a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish in Candy Apple Red, a finish that ages and breathes with the wood rather than sealing it off, so the tone opens up over years of play. The maple neck carries a thick ’60s C profile and a 9.5″ radius rosewood fingerboard with vintage-tall frets, striking a comfortable balance between old-school feel and modern ease of play.
Other vintage-correct details round out the build: a six-point synchronized tremolo bridge, period-style tuning machines, a bone nut, and pearloid dot inlays. It ships in a vintage-style hardshell case, ready to gig or collect.
